Sandy Young was awarded “Best of Show” for her art piece “Open Book” at the national juried show “ABZ Etcetera” at Sebastopol Center for the Arts.
In a well attended opening reception Thursday, September 12, jurors Suzanne Gray and Donna Seager of Seager Gray Gallery in Mill Valley, CA presented awards for the top art pieces in the national show of art that incorporates words, letters or symbols. Sandy Young walked away with the top honor of “Best of Show” for her mixed-media piece “Open Book”.
The jurors, said they had a hard time choosing which of Sandy Young’s two art pieces should receive the award as they were equally impressed with both. Ultimately they chose “Open Book”, stating “ This piece got our attention right away. The materials, text and imagery are beautifully integrated and we loved the multiple media used… with a mastery of her materials.”
Sandy Young’s art “Open Book” and her second piece “Pages of Mystery” layer glass that she has formed in a kiln with imagery, paint, text and wire on wood panel to create a dimensional image that is best experienced in person. Both pieces will be on display at Sebastopol Center for the Arts through October 19th, along with 53 other pieces of art from across the nation that were juried into the show “ABZ Etcetera”.

ABZ Etcetera” runs through October 19, 2013 at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 282 High St. in Sebastopol. Gallery hours are Tues. – Fri., 10 am – 4 pm and Sat., 1-4 pm.
