"Dress Rehearsal" places contemporary ballet dancers into an earlier scene where an antique poster hangs on the wall. Layers of glass with imagery create depth. The dancers in the doorway are on the back plane while the foreground dancer is on the glass panel.
In Cirque contemporary dancers preparing for a performance are viewed through a glass doorway of a building where old, oversized Circus posters line the wall. The three glass panel overlays create a sense of depth. This piece can be disassembled into 3 panels for transport.
This detail of "Dress Rehearsal" shows dancers as viewed through a glass panel. Note bubbles in the glass. The glass panel (right 3/4 of photo) is one inch above the background and shows the door, floor and some wall. The left portion of this photo shows the back panel with texture.
The scene on the glass includes the dancer, some semi-transparent background and a window. Writing on the back panel is seen through the transparent panes of the window. The texture of the back panel combines with the imagery on the glass for the composite image. Light through the piece creates shadows on the back panel.
Dancers on the back panel are viewed through the glass at the doorway, creating a sense of depth. The combination of painting and imagery on both the back panel and glass combine to create a dimensional composition.
Painting and imagery with varying levels of transparency overlay writing on the back panel. Wavy wire detailing runs through the glass. The glass is supported by stainless steel stand-offs approximately one inch from the surface of the back panel.
In this detail, the performers have jumped out of the poster and are shown here on the glass panel. One performer looks out from a window where the transparent glass at the window opening allows view through to the wall behind. Note varying transparency in the dancer's skirt and other portions of the scene. Wire embedded in the glass is shown, along with a stainless steel stand-off that holds the glass one inch from the background panel.
Close-up detail of glass panel showing two distressed posters. The area below the posters is translucent, allowing markings to show through from the wall behind. Wire runs vertically through the glass.
Close-up section of glass panel. The young girl is seen through the glass on the back panel (approx. one inch back) as she peers out to witness the poster coming to life. Lighting in the photograph highlights a wavy glass surface at the door where bubbles have formed in the glass.
This photo highlights transparency in the glass and shows details of a wire that runs through the glass.
