Sandy Young brings new work to the 25th Anniversary show “Celebration of Fine Art” in Scottsdale, AZ. Sandy’s nature-inspired mixed media pieces such as “Winds of Change” and “Spring Inside” make reference to more than the physical. As is typical of her work, Sandy’s new pieces speak to the psychological or inner experience. “Within the Pages” and “From B&W to Color” appear to be more personal as they each feature the image of a young girl.
It is the layering, use of glass, transparency, opacity and dimension that create intrigue and draw one into the art pieces, themselves. “Dawn-Lit Path” and “Night and Day” make particular use of dimension. In the piece “Dawn-Lit Path”, the stairs appear three-dimensional, receding from the viewer, and are accentuated by the actual depth behind the doorway at the top of these steps. “Night and Day” plays with illusion and ambiguity as the window appears to float in a room made up of outside and inside elements, yet offers a new view through its own panes of glass.
Also on display and new this year is art glass lighting by Sandy Young. “The art glass lighting is a fun way for me to play with light and color, and shows a lighter (no pun intended) side of me”, states Young. Geared toward the interior design market, Sandy’s sconce lighting and pendant lamps are all one-of-a-kind, with hand-made glass with UL-listed fixtures.
